This painting is about permission. The permission a woman gives herself to be exactly who she is, without apology and without explanation. I was thinking of Whitney Houston when I worked on this, not because the figure resembles her, but because of the way Whitney sang. That complete, fearless ownership of a voice. I wanted to paint that feeling as a visual experience.
The artist creates the image of the goddess of beauty, proudly displaying the most cherished and coveted golden curls of all time. She truly believes that every woman can change her life. She sings “I’m Every Woman” and moves through the chaos of the world with admirable courage, no longer afraid of criticism for what she truly loves to do.
The path ahead is clear and green. New opportunities are always approaching for those with the strength to keep their eyes open.
